Abhishek Agarwal asked:

Most people suffering from social anxiety disorder or suspecting that they suffer from it are reluctant to talk about it. If ever such people visit a medical professional, they are first required to take a social anxiety test.

What Is a Social Anxiety Test?

This test helps medical professionals determine whether the person has any social phobia and, if so, the nature and intensity of the problem. The prospect of answering a social anxiety test need not terrify you. It is there only to help you.

All that is required of you is perfect honesty. If you are not honest when you answer the various questions in a social anxiety test, it will not give accurate results. In this case, the doctor will not be able to help you. The number one way to bid good bye to social anxiety is to be perfectly honest with yourself and your doctor because these are the only two people in the world who can help you.

Other Types of Tests

Naturally, you would like to know what to expect before you go in for a social anxiety test. You would be surprised to discover that you will be tested on things that are not even remotely connected to social anxiety. For instance, you might be required to take a test for IQ, a test to measure you ability to handle risks, a test to measure you mental strength, a test to determine the level of your self-esteem, your value system, and your personality, a test to determine how prone you are to accidents, and a self-monitoring test. This is only to mention a few of the number of tests included.

What Does a Social Anxiety Test Include?

Many people hardly know what to expect from this test before they actually take it. First, you have to know that you have to provide answers to a set of queries and that you have to be honest when you do so. There will be at least 25 questions, and most people get tired of answering them in a short time.

Second, the doctor might subject you to a practical test to find out how you deal with yourself in public. The doctor will take you to rooms where different types of life activities are going on. He or she will observe how you will deal with the social situation at hand. This will help him or her pinpoint the exact nature of the social phobia you are suffering from.

If you are asked to answer a social anxiety test, be assured that you have nothing to worry about. All that is required of you is an honest and open attitude; it is the greatest favor you can do yourself.

Nancy

Martin Mak asked:

There are many factors that help shape the mind of an individual and there are just as many ways an individual’s perception in life are shaped. No one is in a position to define exactly what constitutes intelligence. Although scientists do not agree on the definition of intelligence, a number of tests have been designed which attempt to quantify this unique human ability. These tests involve such exercises as continuing numerical series, completing pictures, comparing forms and drawing logical conclusions. Using a mathematical formula and a comparative table, the test results are used to calculate a quotient, the intelligence quotient (IQ). But is it possible to measure something we cannot explain? More importantly, is IQ a standard measure? In other words, does the IQ apply equally to everyone? For many, it is not important to complete a series of formal symbols. Can we deduce something as complex as an individual’s intelligence from an IQ test?

For instance, IQ tests do not measure a person’s capacity for learning nor does it tell you how good is an individual’s memory or whether the individual can leverage on his memory on a human level This is critical, for it means that the IQ measurements doesn’t give any indication as to a person’s potential for development. It is a mistake to think that a high IQ is a guarantee for success in school or in the real world. It is not.

Because IQ on its own does not tell us much about a person, many large corporations now test prospective employees in a so-called quality or assessment center, where they make use of a combination of various behavioral and practical tests in order to assess and evaluate a candidate’s suitability for a job The testing can takes two full days and can be a tiring affair.

As part of the tests, applicants must engage in role play, where they take on the role of a superior, a colleague or a customer and are required to bargain and negotiate about business trips, company allowance, fringe benefits or settle disputes between teams or carry out a project with other team members. Role plays can also take the form of a difficult customer for a product or service. Observers evaluate how well a candidate can remember details about the customer’s name, his needs or a fictitious company product line. Different observers then judge their behavior according to criteria such as the ability to empathize with others, leadership style, self-discipline and self-assertiveness and problem solving skills.

Although a high IQ can be of help to an individual in life or work, there are other talents, like soft skills, that can be an asset to a person in career or in life. For instance, just as a good memory can be of help in life, it is just as important to use that memory on a human level to drive further success For instance helping your boss to remember an event that will make him look good like his upcoming wedding anniversary, remembering and getting your colleague a specific data for a project he or she is trying to accomplish, or remembering your own spouse’s birthday or your children’s school play or soccer game. If we can remember, and perform the small things that matter big to other people, we can certainly bring ourselves to a higher level of success that intelligence cannot.

Daniel

Susan Bond asked:

This year the Ohio Graduation Test will have its first profound impact on graduating seniors in Ohio’s school districts. For the first time, high school students who do not pass the test will not be conferred a diploma, ending the long standing, “you can catch-up in college” mentality.

To be sure, the remedial course designations at Ohio’s colleges and universities will continue to meet the need of the roughly 65% of high school students who choose to attend post secondary education, but for those who simply need the high school sheep skin, it has just become much harder to receive.

The Ohio Achievement Test or Graduation Test as it has become known, will have a marked impact on the way Ohio teachers and students structure the critical years before high school commencement. For a numbers of years, high school teachers have voiced concern that they have had to alter their teaching style and eliminate numerous real life courses in favor of only those topics that may appear on the Ohio Graduation Test or OGT. To be fair, OGT’s new requirements have changed the face of education in Ohio and many parents and teachers would argue that it has for the better.

While the rest of the world has moved forward in establishing education standards, the United States has lagged behind, preferring to allow local school districts to personalize their education and determine which critical areas must have the most focus. With the advent of No Child Left Behind and State and National Standards, the Ohio Graduation Test has become the critical harbinger in determining what has been taught and what has been learned in Ohio’s high schools.

Critics would put forward that these new standards represent the homogenization of education, while proponents argue that there finally is a consistent set of standards within which American children are required to achieve.

How then is the most efficient way to study for success?

This critical question is answered where 90% of Americans now seek information, the Internet. And many entities have tried and failed to create a comprehensive online practice test solution.

While the debate is likely to continue for years to come, the students of 2006 are faced with a very real problem. How do they study for and pass a test that determines their future success, and indeed if they see Miss Pritchet in English again next year or walk the quad at college thinking of a major.

There are paper study guides sold on Amazon, including one popular guide published by Barron’s. and several independent companies offer ebooks, where a student must download a PDF file and print out pages.

MaxSkill offers OGT practice Software on CD available for Windows computers.

Paper Books are not interactive. While eBooks offer the immediate gratification of receiving a product immediately through a download, eBooks are often padded artificially by publishers so as to increase the page length of the ebook. This means a busy student must use extra inkjet ink or pay extra printout charges at Kinko’s for pages that are unneeded.

Online practice tools are both interactive and available immediately to busy students. There are two main online practice tools for the OGT. IQ-ity.com and StudyIsland.

Many education entities have tried, with little success, to create a practice test that enables students at every level to work throughout the school year and achieve their potential when the actual test is attempted. Unfortunately, few in this area have succeeded save two or three.

Among this group of highly specialized companies one shines above the rest. It is the only entity that has been actually reviewed by those Ohio educators who consulted with the Ohio Department of Education on the creation of the actual OGT test.

The team at IQ-ity has created the only online practice test specifically designed for Ohio students by Ohio educators with years of experience in online education. It is the only scientific and intelligence-based test for educational assessment, and it aligns with state benchmarks and grade level indicators.

Student’s lives today revolve around the internet. They enjoy socializing and working online. Colleges and Universities are capitalizing on this trend by offering more courses online and the IQ-ity Ohio Graduation Practice Test is an extension of what awaits Ohio’s future scholars.

In a review of all the available practice options for high school students, the IQ-ity Ohio Graduation Practice Test is found to be the most advanced self-paced test that delivers the results for which every student and their families strive. This practice test is available to every school district in Ohio and every private or parochial school to begin practicing for success.

Vera Block

Paul Hata asked:

An adult that is suspected to have dyslexia can take tests to know whether he or she is positive for the condition. If you think that you have dyslexia, then it is recommended that you take a test. There are basically two types of tests that you can get, namely screening and comprehensive.

1.Screening Tests

Screening tests are specially designed to narrow down the number of candidates for the condition. These are typically used in schools, in which a number of students take it and those who yield a positive result are identified to take a more thorough testing procedure.

These are not really specific tests for dyslexia. However, they are simply designed to help out researchers to identify and focus on students or individuals who appear to have difficulties in regards to their studies, and who may have a possible case of dyslexia.

Such kind of test can be taken both by adults and children. Some companies can give out a test like this to identify who among their employees are somewhat challenged, specifically in reading, writing and math.

Usually, a screening test is consisted of a small number of short questions, like: Do you have difficulty with spelling? Were you unenthusiastic to go to school? Do you find following directions difficult or confusing?Do you have troubles with math and the likes?

A person that yields a positive through this test may be having problems due to a number of causes. Some of the possible reasons are: Attention Deficit (ADHD), emotional problems, dyspraxia, autism, delayed learning, and possibly dyslexia. Screening tests are not really considered as a valid test for dyslexia, but these can be very useful for researchers.

2.Comprehensive Tests

The second type of test is comprehensive tests. This kind of test for dyslexia takes a look at the person as a whole. It also examines and tries to find out the root cause of any kind of learning difficulty that you may be experiencing.

Taking a comprehensive test simply means that you would have to undergo thorough testing. Thorough in the sense that you would have to go to the extent of having your brain tested. Here your brain is examined to know which of its parts are functioning, which ones are not, and which are interfering with your acquisition of normal learning.

Not only do you have to get your brain checked, but also have to take a number of aptitude tests. Initially, your reading, comprehension, and spelling skills are to be tested. They also get your Intelligence Quotient (IQ) by giving you intelligence tests. Additionally, you would also have to take visual tests, visual scanning tests, laterality tests, sequencing tests, reversal test and the likes.

These are just some of the general tests that are given when you get a comprehensive kind of testing. However, the number of tests given can still vary, depending on the institute or professional that is giving you a comprehensive assessment. So this means, some may give you more or less, than those tests mentioned above.

Usually, a psychologist is the one that administers a comprehensive test. After all the data are analyzed, all of the test results are compiled into one complete report. In the report, you can see the conclusions about your condition along with the evidences for them.

Anthony

Ron Clover asked:

In the current job market, being invited to a job interview almost always entails taking psychometric tests. The two main elements in psychometric testing consist of – personality tests and aptitude (IQ) tests.

Personality Tests

Personality tests are the most mystifying element of the selection process. Most people don’t know much about them.

One of the main reason personality tests are used is that they provide insight that is often lacking in the interview process. One known weakness of the interview is that the interviewer’s personal preferences can prevent him/her from having impartial judgment. Research has shown, for example, that physically attractive candidates have a better chance of succeeding in the interview compared to less attractive candidates. Unlike the interview, personality tests are both more objective and more resilient to the assessors’ biases. This is a clear advantage for you, the test-taker. It means that you’ll face the personality test without any judgmental bias from others.

Bad Advice: “Just Be Yourself”.

The worst advice you’ll ever get before taking a personality test is,

“On the day of the test, just be yourself”.

It assumes that if job candidates behave as they normally do during the job selection process, it will increase their chances of success. According to this philosophy, if you’re generally a shy person you should be shy during the job interview and selection tests, and if you’re impulsive by nature you should answer impulsively on the test.

Our day-to-day behaviour is strongly influenced by the situation we’re in. The nature of the situation influences our stress level, which in turn has an impact on our behaviour. For example, you can be intolerant in one stressful situation but courteous in another. Which side of your personality do you want to show on the test?

Experience gained from preparing thousands of job applicants tells us that the recommendation to “just be your self” is potentially harmful. On the day of the test you should emphasise your strengths, not your weaknesses. A spontaneous “natural” response is not necessarily the best one, neither in life nor on a selection test. For example, if your boss has treated you rudely at work, telling him or her off would likely be a foolish mistake that might cost you your job. It’s usually best to swallow the insult, cool down and approach the situation in a more rational manner later on.

The rule is the same during a selection test – do the smart thing and be calculated.

Be honest but sensible.

Imagine that the personality test was a conversation with your boss: would you tell him/her everything about your personal life? The personality test is not the forum to mention hidden fears, doubts or occasional mood swings. In the personality test you should express honest, work-related behaviour. Ultimately, that’s the only thing the assessors are really interested in.

During the test you need to be calculated, focused and determined to do well. Be honest, but be sensible.

Learn, practice and familiarise your self with personality tests – the more you know the better your chances of success!

Aptitude Tests

Aptitude tests fall into three broad skill categories: verbal, numerical and abstract (or diagrammatic). Additional skills are assessed in specific fields and for specific positions.

Can we develop our aptitude skills?

Some academics argue that it’s impossible to prepare for abstract reasoning tests because they are based on innate abilities. This is not something that should be accepted at face value.

Your chances of doing well on any test increase if you:

-	are familiar with the test format and type of questions asked.

-	practice solving aptitude questions.

-	improve your verbal and numerical skills – your crystallized intelligence.

-	learn the key rules that underpin each test, and practice effective strategies for dealing with specific question types.

There are over a thousand different aptitude tests on the market. However, because there are only a few major publishers that develop these tests, while they may vary slightly in format and in appearance there is very little variation in the types of questions. When you prepare for these tests you should focus on the essence, format and type of questions on the test. It would be a waste of your precious time to concentrate on a specific set of questions. Even if you ended up taking the same test that you prepared for, the questions would likely be different and only the format the same.

Experience has shown that 80% of the people who practice thoroughly pass the selection process. On the other hand, only 15% of those who come unprepared complete the selection process successfully.

The key to success is in your hands. With enough practice, you should feel confident and relaxed on the day of the test.

Bobby

Roger Grossman asked:

Most Men think they know some things about erectile dysfunction (ED). It may be that you even deal with it yourself. You may already be using an ED pharmaceutical like Viagra, Cialis or Levitra through an online pharmacy, but how much do you really know about those drugs and why you’re taking them? Take this quick test to learn more, and to see how many of the ideas and notions you may already have are correct.

1) True or false: ED drugs like Levitra, Viagra, and Cialis help a man achieve an erection by increasing the flow of blood to the penis, causing it to harden.

True. Viagra, for instance, belongs to a class of drugs called “PDE5 inhibitors.” It works by increasing blood flow to the penis to improve erectile function. The active ingredient in Levitra works on the chain of events that occurs in the penis during arousal, when two large chambers in a man’s penis fill with blood.

2) True or false: A major cause of ED is poor blood flow and constricted blood vessels, often caused by smoking cigarettes.

True. Cigarette smoking, and the nicotine in that smoke, can cause blood vessels to tighten and narrow, thereby interrupting or slowing blood flow. Since an erection is caused by blood flow to the penis, cigarette smoking is widely believed to be a cause of ED, and some anti-tobacco public relations and government anti-smoking campaigns even graphically depict how this happens.

3) True or false: It’s normal for an erection to last four hours or more.

False. If you thought it was true, you must be some kind of masochist or a porn star in waiting. This condition is called priapism, and, while quite rare, can happen with the use of some ED drugs. If you have an erection that lasts this long, you need to get medical attention ASAP.

4) True or false: All online pharmacies are legitimate and sell only high quality products.

False. Unfortunately, nothing could be further from the truth. There are online pharmacies around the world, especially outside America, that sell absolute garbage. I’ve even heard stories about how, in one country, the Viagra is nothing more than a placebo dyed blue in a cement mixer. You should ask some questions when you are ordering through an online pharmacy, such as: Where are you people located? (they should tell you) Do I have to give some medical information before you will give me a prescription? (the answer should always be yes) How long have you been in business? Are the ED pharmaceuticals you deal in guaranteed to be 100% authentic and not some type of counterfeit rip-off? Can I check you through the Better Business Bureau? What kind of safeguards do you have in place for my credit information? Do you have a street address somewhere that can be verified? There are numerous ways you can be sure that the online pharmacy you are dealing with is a reputable and established one, like www.edrugstore.md.

In the end, knowledge is power. You should find out as much as you can about ED, what types of drugs will be best for your situation, and which online pharmacies are the most reputable. It’s not just a matter of getting ripped off financially. Your health could be at stake.

Albert

You overtake the second place person.

What position are you in?

***

***

***

***

***

***

Answer: If you answered that you are first, then you are wrong! If

you overtake the second place person, and you take their place, you are

second!

To answer the second question, don’t take as much time as you took for

the first question.

Second Question:

If you are in a race, and you overtake the last person, then you are?

***

***

***

***

***

***

Answer: If you answered that you are second to last, then you are

wrong again. Do NOT

use paper and pencil or a calculator. Try it.

Third Question:

Take 1000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1000. Now add 30. Add

another 1000. Now add 20.
Janet Martin asked:

When it comes to cellulite, a lot of women are in the dark. They seem to know more about Oprah than they do about this common condition that has been around for about 150 years! This is a crying shame since a lot of heartaches, tensions, and trauma can be relieved if more women knew the truth about cellulite.

To straighten things out, here are some common myths and misconceptions about cellulite from the makers of Celrase, a breakthrough product that helps eliminate cellulite, reduce stubborn body fat, and restore your skin’s natural beauty:

Cellulite is a disease. False. It’s not medical condition. It’s a normal variation of fat that causes the skin to look like an orange peel or cottage cheese. This cosmetic problem affects many women (and a few men) and commonly appears around the hips, thighs, and buttocks.

“If your body is storing large amounts of body fat, it needs some sort of structure to support the fat. It sets up a network of protein strands (called ‘collagen’) that weave through the fat stores, and attach to the skin. The tension of the collagen strands can pull the skin inwards. This gives the dimpling effect that can be a problem on the thighs or arms of females, or the stomachs of males. This combination of body fat stores and supporting fibers is called cellulite,” said the editors of Yahoo! Health.

A low-fat diet can treat cellulite. False. While a low-fat diet is healthy, especially if you’re overweight or want to maintain your present weight, it won’t prevent or treat cellulite. It makes more sense to combine healthy eating habits with exercise if you want to strengthen your body and firm up your muscles. That way, cellulite become less noticeable.

Cellulite is caused by water build-up and toxins in the body. False. This idea was popularized by Nicole Ronsard in 1973 who first described the condition in her book “Cellulite: Those Bumps and Bulges You couldn’t Lose Before.” Research has shown, however, that cellulite is simply stored fat and nothing more.

“This idea has been pushed by companies that offer cures based on ‘detoxification’ or the release of water stored in the cellulite fat (adipose tissue). However, scientific studies have shown that while the structure of tissue surrounding fat in cellulose skin areas is abnormal, the physiological and chemical nature of cellulite adipose cells appear to be no different from that in other parts of the body,” revealed the Science for Every Woman blog.

Surgery is the only cure for cellulite. False. It would appear that surgery, particularly liposuction, is the only way out for women with cellulite but the procedure carries a lot of risks and discomforts – not to mention the huge medical bill you’ll probably get! A good exercise program and a high-fiber diet can reduce cellulite. Drink plenty of fluids and avoid salty foods that can cause fluid retention and make your condition worse.

Another alternative is Celrase, a revolutionary product that helps reduce cellulite and clears stubborn fat to bring out a better and sexier you. Just apply it on affected areas once or twice a day and you’ll be ready to face the world again with your great body.
Steve Gillman asked:

What is real genius, and how do we cultivate it in ourselves? A common dictionary definition is, “Extraordinary intellectual power especially as manifested in creative activity.” Some definitions refer to a high IQ as well, but that doesn’t seem to be an important component. Both intellectual power and creativity can certainly exist without a high level of intelligence, as I will explain.

Real genius, then, whether in the sciences, arts, or business, is about finding new, creative and effective ways to do things. How high a man or woman scores on some test of intelligence is not so relevant. How productive he or she is in producing new ideas is the most defining factor.

Genius Is In The Software

If we look at the brain and mind as a computer, we can see that the physical part, made up of neurons and such, is the hardware. This is the computer before we install the operating system and various programs. If it is potentially more powerful, that’s great. But it isn’t enough. In order to realize that power, to use it, we need the programs. What would the computer on your desk be worth without any software? The same is true of our brains.

The software, then, consists of our ways of thinking. These are developed starting in childhood, but they are not static. We can continue to add new “programs” throughout life, and the right ones can dramatically increase one’s creativity. This is why a less intelligent man can be a genius at something, while a man with a much higher IQ may add little in the way of new ideas, thinking or products to the world. It is all about the software.

What about these “programs?” What are they, where do you get them and how do you install them? The bad news is that they do not install as easily as programs do on your desktop computer. You have to work with them for at least several weeks to make these new ways of thinking habitual. The good news is that once they do become a habit, they work for you almost effortlessly.

A “program” might be as simple as “the exploration of creative alternatives by looking at purposes.” This is something anyone can do, but few do it systematically or habitually. Work with this enough consciously, though, and it becomes a regular part of your thinking. You look at a textbook from a school, for example, and your mind asks “What are the purposes, and what does that suggest for alternatives?”

You see that a textbook is supposed to impart knowledge to the student. The questions that naturally arise include, “Does it do that well?” and “What else might suit this purpose?” The question of effectiveness makes you wonder what you would find if ten different textbooks on the same subject matter were used to teach students, and then we tested the students to see which group learned more. That leads you to the idea for a textbook testing service (currently, textbooks are often chosen according to the preferences educators, rather than by effectiveness). The “what else” part could get you thinking about making educational material into video games.

Other creative ideas will start to come to mind as you look at the matter, at least if that is the way your brain is programmed to work. And the “program” above is just one example of many techniques for creative thinking which you can “install” in yourself. A higher IQ could be helpful, and raising yours may be possible, but that is not nearly as important to developing real genius as changing the ways in which you think.

Micle Shenker

Margaret Paul, Ph.d. asked:

“…telling children they’re smart…made them feel dumber and act dumber.”

–Mindset, by Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D., p.74

In her extraordinary book, Mindset, Dr. Carol S. Dweck presents research that, hopefully, will change the course of parenting and education. In one of her research studies, conducted with hundreds of mostly early adolescent students, she:

“…gave each student a set of ten fairly difficult problems from a non-verbal IQ test. They mostly did well on these and when they were finished we praised them.

We praise some of the students for their ability. They were told: ‘Wow, you got [say] eight right. That’s a really good score. You must be smart at this….’

We praise other students for their effort: ‘Wow, you got [say] eight right. That’s a really good score. You must have worked really hard.’” P. 71-2

As it turned out, the students who were praised for being smart started to do worse and didn’t enjoy the harder problems, fearing being exposed for not being as smart as the researcher thought, while 90% of the students praised for effort tried harder and enjoyed the harder problems. In fact, they found the harder problems “the most fun.” In the end “the performance of the ability-praised students plummeted,” while the “effort kids showed better and better performance.”

“Since this was a kind of IQ test, you might say that praising ability lowered the students’ IQs. And that praising their effort raised them.” P. 73

This is powerful research for parents and educators. As I look back on kids I grew up with and went to school with, I can see this in action. Often, the kids who were told how smart or talented they were, or how much natural ability they had in a given area, such as sports or math, were the kids who never lived up to their potential. Those kids who were not given a “potential” to live up to were often the ones who did really well.

What Dr. Dweck’s research shows is that praising an ability is one of the things that contributes to creating what she calls a “fixed mindset,” which is a belief that our intelligence and abilities are something we are just born with and cannot be changed. Those with a “growth mindset” – the intent to learn – do not have this belief. They believe that through dedication and effort, they can develop their intelligence and abilities. As she shows in her excellent book, this has been proven over and over in all walks of life.

So what about praise? As we can see, praising a child for abilities contributes to the child becoming externally defined. This child says, “I get approval when I succeed. My worth is attached to success.” This creates a fear of not succeeding and therefore not being worthy, which not only limits what the child tries to do, but also limits the enjoyment of it. The child is no longer learning for the joy of it, but for the approval, and will stop trying if it appears that he or she is not going to succeed. Failure to this child means, “I am a failure.”

On the other hand, those children praised for effort rather than for abilities learn to be internally defined. They keep their natural enjoyment of learning. They are excited by the prospect of a challenge because they are unattached to the outcome of success or failure. Failure just means that they will try harder. Success or failure doesn’t define their worth.

Not only can parents and teachers greatly benefit from reading “Mindset”, but anyone stuck in protecting against pain or failure can also benefit. If you have been trying to heal or progress in various areas of your life and feel you are not getting anywhere, read “Mindset.” I highly recommend it.

Steven
